Canvas, a problem creator?

One of my friends was looking for a new job and he came across https://resume.io to build/clean up his resume.

One thing he missed was that the template he used for the resume was paid and he realized this after filling in all the details related to the resume.

I was sitting in my room in front of my big desktop screen looking at the Figma file and I saw all his emotions one by one, from excitement to payment.

Suddenly I was interested in inspecting the element of the webpage and wanted to understand how resume.io connects all the dots and there they used a canvas now I realized I can generate the resume without paying anything (which is not ethical )

What was the problem?

  • It is a canvas element means, it can be converted to an image and opened into a new tab with only a resume image, later this image can be printed as a PDF with good quality.
  • No watermark for free users, which kind of seems like a bad product decision but their focus is just not the resume-building

So I twitted about the problem
